As part of a speculative development proposal, SHA was commissioned to create a master plan for a man-made island located in the Caribbean.
The design proposal included a new cruise-ship port, a large public park, numerous waterfront hotel sites and adjoining protected beach area, a large casino, a private yacht and recreational harbor and mixed-use port-area commercial district with podium parking below, and a linear, tree-covered parking structure as an elevated amenity ridge area for the public park, and a raised ground floor entry level to the beachside hotels, thereby raising all public hospitality uses above anticipated flood criteria minimum standards.
An additional, ocean facing “urban” waterfront of residential condominiums will include a continuous public promenade, linking the port area with the casino area, and remaining public amenity spaces, as well as providing secondary emergency access to all island properties.
