Baltimore, MD
Seth Harry and Associates, Inc., in association with TND Planning Group, undertook a week-long public charrette process in East Baltimore to master-plan a large Study Area related to the anticipated extension of the existing Red-line light rail, to run between the existing neighborhoods of Highlandtown and Greektown, in Baltimore City.
The station area and proposed transit route, which includes former industrial areas and brown fields, was designed to both mitigate and bridge across an area presently occupied by underutilized industrial properties and both active and abandoned freight rail lines, by creating new linkages and shared public spaces between the two communities.
The process also looked closely at the economic and market implications for Station Area redevelopment, including the development of specific economic revitalization strategies intended to strengthen and enhance locally-owned business enterprises, while attracting new investment and civic amenities.
