Port St. Lucie, FL
Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, a public-entity charged with helping to promote more coordinated regional planning policies based upon Smart Growth and New Urban principles, asked Seth Harry and Associates, Inc., to assist in producing a Master Plan and redevelopment strategy for a failed regional mall in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
The intent was to create a real downtown for the somewhat infamous suburban community, which was originally built exclusively in the form of suburban sprawl, with very few commercial centers.
The first phase of infrastructure implementation is now complete, with all the roads and block networks in place, and the brand new Civic Center and adjoining parking deck are already finished and operational. Phased demolition of the existing mall is also completed, with all viable existing businesses on the site having been retained and incorporated into the plan.
