Asheville, NC
Designed for a light industrial infill site in Asheville, North Carolina, Fairview Village was conceived as a mixed-use neighborhood intended to help restore coherency to a compromised residential fabric in an older part of the City, close to the landmark Biltmore Estate.
The site was heavily impacted by prior use as a borrow pit, and the steep slopes had been graded to make the site more suitable for light industrial use. The approach taken incorporated the remaining natural grades and mature tree plantings -- bolstered by “best practices” erosion control and storm-water management techniques -- to help reintegrate the site into the existing, ethnically-diverse neighborhood fabric.
Building types ranged from single-family detached to multi-family/commercial mixed-use, and included a small neighborhood serving commercial district.
