Seth Harry & Associates was hired by the city of Milton, WA to create a comprehensive master plan, linking together disparate sections of the city. Working from existing centers, the master plan calls for the retrofit of suburban, auto-dominated center in mixed-use, pedestrian friendly community centers.
The existing commercial center, consisting of strip shopping centers with large parking lots and pad site retail, has the ability to redevelop while still operating in its current capacity. The master plan calls for liner buildings to be built on both sides of the community's main street on top of existing parking lots, so as not to displace existing commercial uses. The resultant space would be a pedestrian friendly, mixed-use environment not yet found in the surrounding context, providing the city with a unique opportunity to create a niche market.
